Earth Day Bike Ride
Celebrate Earth Day the month of April by decreasing noise and air pollution, while simultaneously improving your quality of life! Ride your bike to school, work, or just for fun. Share a photo of your ride on social media with the hashtag #IFEarthDay. Be sure to make your post public so we can share it on the Idaho Falls Earth Day Social Media Accounts, or if your post is private you can DM the picture to the IF Earth Day account to be posted. Have a favorite path you like to ride? Share it with us by posting about it within the event! If you are a Strava user, you can also share details about your ride with us on social media. All participants who share their posts with us will be entered into a raffle to win a prize!
Here are some basic tips for a safe ride:
- Wear a helmet
- Use bike lights (front and back)
- Be kind and respectful to whomever you encounter
- Use hand signals and follow the rules of the road
Bike riding uses minimal fossil fuels. This means riding your bike offers a pollution-free mode of transport. If you replace a car with a bike each time you go to school/work, you will save approximately 3,000 lbs of greenhouse gas emissions each year.
Bike riding boosts mental and emotional health. It improves your balance and posture, cardiovascular endurance, flexibility, strength, and overall mood as well. Plus, riding your bike gives you a chance to get outdoors and get some fresh air. The personal health benefits of bike riding are numerous.
